For the sake of completion, I’m updating the blog with the first assignment we did. The one that started it all…The Challenge. This was before Art Pandemonium was officially started, it began with us sitting around a table, doodling, chatting, drinking coffee/tea when our topic of conversation went to picking on Mike and telling him he had to do a Landscape with the inks he had gotten recently simply because he had never used inks before. What made it meaner is that he only got red, teal and black…and of course we said he could only use those… Then something possessed us to go around the table and give everyone a challenge. Mike knew that Megan had never done a self portrait nor had she worked with charcoal much, so he threw that challenge at her… Then it got to me… I couldn’t help but think “not pastels, please not pastels…I just got them, I don’t know them…please not pastels…and dear god whatever you say, don’t make me do landscapes…no…” guess what…either I was talking out loud or they read my mind because they assigned me pastel landscapes.
So long story short, we all got challenged and I’d say we all had really good results. Megan’s self portrait was beautiful and well cropped and I thought Mike’s landscape really benefited from the color restrictions. I was irritated that I didn’t have the right colors for my landscape but I couldn’t really complain to Mike while we were drawing at Banning State Park since I was mean to him with colors… hehe, so here’s mine.
We climbed out on the rocks surrounding the river to get this shot. It was beautiful, the weather was perfect, slightly breezy, sunny and clear. I’m hoping to get up there again soon and explore some other spots. Hopefully this time I won’t pick up a hitch-hiker…stupid ticks… ICK!
